Exogenous arginine modulates leaf antioxidant enzymes and hydrogen peroxide content in tomato plants under transient heat stresses

Heat stress can impact crop development and yield amino acids play diverse essential roles in plants. This work aimed to study the long-term effects of foliar spray with L-arginine antioxidant machinery, physiology, nutrition, productivity fruit quality tomato plants subjected transient heat stresses. Six concentrations were sprayed on plants: 0 (control), 0.10, 0.25, 0.50, 1.0 2.0 g·L–1. The content hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), a reactive oxygen species, decreased concurrently increasing arginine concentration. ascorbate (APX) activity had an inverse behavior that observed for H2O2 (r = –0.79), not only indicating is able modulate APX, but also suggesting this enzyme plays important role mitigation generation under stress. Ascorbate catalase (CAT) activities positive correlation 0.82), showing these enzymes may tandem. influence photosynthesis gas exchange was generally weak depended mainly plant developmental stage. Yield increased by 19.8 23.1% received 0.5 g·L–1 arginine, respectively, when compared control In conclusion, use exogenous protect against oxidative imbalance within protected environments.
